Advice To Next Semester

I'm not going to lie, I really enjoyed this class. Angela is a great teacher and wants you to do good and learn in her class. I believe everything we did will help me after I graduate. As long as you keep up with the blogs and the other group assignments you'll have no problem making an A in this class. Best of luck to you!

Web Writing vs. Writing on Paper

Writing on the web and writing on paper have some similarities and some differences. They are the same in the sense that you should still use proper grammar. Depending on the situation, of course, slang is more acceptable to use on the internet. When writing on paper it is more important to use spacing in between your paragraphs to make good use of the paper space.

When transfering a document from paper to the web you should consider how the document is going to be viewed. On the web, the viewer has the freedom to scroll up and down and look at different parts of the document at the same time. This means that the text can be spaced farther apart to help readablity.

Free Write-Spring Break

This week's blog topic is a freewrite. I chose to write about my spring break. Well it started by working Friday and Saturday night at my new job at Pixie and Bills. Then Sunday, me and my brother went down to Myrtle Beach. We started off by hanging out with some buddies of my that I haven't seen in what seemed like years. We ended up hanging out with them for a few days. After another friend of mine came up from Charleston for the night, the next night we went down to stay with him. We had a good ole time. I even thought about transfering to C of C for a minute.
We went out every night and I had great time, blew way too much money though. Clemson is a great place but the beach does have its perks. All in all, this spring break was exactly the break I needed from work and school.

Presentations

All of the presentations I saw were good, so it is pretty hard to pick which one was my favorite. I did enjoy the presentation on the scouting combine, as well as the presentation about online gambling. Other than the fact that those are two things that I am interested in, the presentations had good information, in the right format. Also, they were presented well by each student presented each very well. I also liked the way the background didn't work for the poker presentation, and he just continued on with his presentation and did not let the that stop him. Overall the presentations were fun to watch and were a nice change of speed for class.

Mock Interview Reflection

This week's topic is to reflect on the mock interview process. The mock interview process was helpful to me in many ways. I realized that it takes a lot of preparation to be impressive to an employer at an interview. Even though I felt comfortable in this particular situation, I can see how in a real interview it would be quite intimidating. This experience did show me that I needed to practice my answers and be ready for those weird questions that the interviewer might ask. Overall the experience of a mock interview was a good indicator of how much work I need to do before I really start my interview process.

Free Write

Since this is a free write I figured I'd tell you about my apartment. It is a two bedroom, two bath apartment with a kitchen and a living room. When you first walk in the kitchen is on the right and the first bedroom is on your left. As you continue into the living room, you pass the dining table, on your right, and the second bedroom on your left. The living room was actually a nice suprise when I moved in. Since the couch is built into the wall and came with cushions on it there was no furniture that needed to be moved except for my bed.

Now I've slept on the same handmade bed since I was about four years old, it was a single. I don't think I can tell you how nice it is to sleep on a brand new queen every night. It really does make it hard to leave and go back home, I do anyway but I'm not happy about it. So yeah that's about all that can be said about my apartment and I hope you enjoyed reading this.

cover letter

This week's blog is to respond to a series of articles dicussing the proper format and use of a cover letter with a resume. I found these articles to be very informational and believe the information will be very helpful when the time comes to write a cover letter.

I did not know that each company you send your resume to should have a different cover letter with it. The article on what the content of the cover letter should is what interested me most. I don't know what I thought was supposed to be in a cover letter but now I know. Saying what you offer and what it will take to get you to work there, being specific to the business you are applying to will help your chances of standing out and being hired. One part of the resume process that I wasn't sure on was that contacting the business soon after you apply will help your chances of being hired. I like the way they said it too, "the wheel that squeaks the loudest gets the grease." Of course this doesn't mean be annoying, it only means that showing interest in the company and getting the job will help your chances of standing out and being hired.
